This train carried only many carloads of highly volatile and extremely flammable Bakken crude oil. The resulting fireball destroyed much of beautiful little Lac-Megantic and killed 47. The spilled oil also caused catastrophic environmental damage to the ground and neighboring waterways. Those fortunate enough to survive that July 2013 night still suffer from emotional trauma.In this well researched and interesting non-fiction novel Bruce Campbell describes in detail how the shippers, the railroads and the Canadian government turned a blind eye to good risk management. I highly recommend the book "The Lac-Megantic Rail Disaster, Public Betrayal. Justice Denied".As a side note, I have investigated train accidents in the United States for twenty-five years. Bakken crude oil train accidents will occur again, the only question is where and when. We have not learned from history and unfortunately are doomed to repeat it. The resulting fires are almost impossible to put out and could burn for days. The trains travel over major waterways and through both unpopulated and highly congested urban areas.Use your imagination, it almost too scary to believe what the devastating result can be.
